@Steve_Kenzie@MarcSimonKahn "Real value creation is collective."
We can't get much of that if we work only in a line-based machine model. A living system promotes information sharing and constant development.

@Steve_Kenzie Our last speaker today is @MarcSimonKahn, who is discussing how our organisational models can work better and be more sustainable.
Rather than following an industrial and machine model, he proposes a 'gardening' or 'brain' approach - one that is more organic.
#SBCJSY
Along with attendees, weβre reviewing key takeaways and how we can work together to implement some of the principles our speakers have highlighted.

Our final event of the day is a panel chaired by @estellelevin.
Estelle is an expert in environmental & human rights due diligence, sustainability policy, standards design & implementation, and responsible business conduct with experience helping clients across multiple sectors.
@MarcSimonKahn This living system, Marc suggests, is more like a garden approach. We control some of the conditions around the garden but must allow the garden (or organisation) to grow on its own without intense micromanagement.
It becomes an evolving system.

Our next speaker is @MarcSimonKahn, Chief Strategy & Sustainability Officer at @Investec. He is also a senior associate at the Cambridge Institute of Sustainability Leadership, Cambridge University.
He is exploring how systems of leadership need to change.
#SBCGSY
@MarcSimonKahn shares that we are still existing in an industrial model of organisation - stuck from the Industrial Revolution.
This is not the model that will help deal with the challenges of the future. Instead, we need to move to a living systems model.

@DrVictoriaHurth has now lead us through an exercise on the 3 logics, and how each aspect of business can support sustainability.
A key thread is purpose and values.
#SBCGSY
The UN hopes that we can take these goals into our own business goals - filtering into each part of our organisation.
Steve emphasises that we need to see these goals as benefiting us in the present day, as well as the future. They also provide business advantages.
#SBCGSY
Next, @Steve_Kenzie explores the Sustainable Development Goals.
Steve is the Executive Director of the UN Global Compact Network UK; a position he has held since 2007. The Global Compact is the UNβs corporate sustainability initiative.
#SBCGSY
The Global Compact calls upon participants to align their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.
There are 17 goals that we can support: https://t.co/jhN3DQ4ZrQ

Purpose, Dr Hurth says, brings humanity back into the organisation.
We will need to move from a GDP economy to a wellbeing economy, and from profit-based organisations to purpose-driven businesses.
That will let us achieve real sustainability.
#SBCGSY
Our first speaker is @DrVictoriaHurth.
Dr Hurth is a Fellow of the University of Cambridge Institute of Sustainability Leadership, and works at the intersection of academia and hands-on decision-making to help drive long-term wellbeing for all (sustainability).
#SBCGSY
Dr Hurth proposes that "unsustainability is a governance failure at all levels."
She believes that we should focus on our businesses having a purpose, a drive for wellbeing for all, and doing no harm.
#SBCGSY
Our lineup today includes experts in the field of sustainability: @DrVictoriaHurth, @sallyrochester, @MarcSimonKahn, and @Steve_Kenzie.
We thank our speakers for joining us today to discuss how we can embed sustainability into our businesses and lives.
