72 million year old dinosaur egg found in China with intact embryo inside....

In southern China, researchers identified a remarkably preserved 72-million-year-old dinosaur embryo inside a fossilized egg from the Late Cretaceous period. Nicknamed Baby Yingliang, the specimen was discovered in Ganzhou and later studied at the Yingliang Stone Nature History Museum. The embryo belongs to a group of beaked, feathered dinosaurs known as Oviraptoridae, relatives of modern birds.

The fossil is exceptionally rare because the embryo is preserved almost completely intact, curled inside the egg in a posture strikingly similar to that of bird embryos preparing to hatch. Scientists believe this position, called “tucking”, helps modern birds stabilize themselves while breaking through the shell. The discovery suggests this behavior may have evolved tens of millions of years before birds, among their dinosaur ancestors. The egg itself measures about 17 centimeters (6.7 inches) long, while the embryo inside is roughly 27 centimeters (about 11 inches) from head to tail.

Paleontologists estimate that fewer than a dozen well-preserved dinosaur embryos like this have ever been discovered worldwide, making specimens like Baby Yingliang extremely valuable for understanding how dinosaurs developed before hatching.
