@msfontanaa I think most of the guidelines are pretty easy to sustain (washing hands, wearing masks, increased cleaning). Contact tracing takes uses human resources but the biggest debate will be the 6 foot distancing because it nearly prevents districts from being 5-day-a-week in-person.

Educators who are going to be teaching fully remote for at least the time being, let us show the world what amazing things we can do from a distance so we don’t have to compromise between safety and education.

As educators, we know that in-person instruction IS better for our students, especially when it comes to students’ social and emotional well-being. But ACADEMICALLY, when the restrictions and mandates come off, we can provide high quality learning experiences from anywhere.

For all school stakeholders, including superintendents and school boards, I think we can all agree that this is not easy. In times of great challenge, let us use our words to inform and enlighten, not to tear down or ignore. Thank you to all who are working so hard this summer.

This weekend I am spending time at the #NEASummit. The #collab4students session this afternoon is both insightful and affirmative. While we can always aspire for higher levels of collaboration, the work that D303 administration and SCEA members do together is powerful.

Spending the afternoon hearing from (and taking action with) IEA recommended candidates Sean Casten, Lauren Underwood, and Karina Villa. Public education is under attack, and these candidates understand the importance of what we do for our students.
