@BiologyCarly Borrowing a centrifuge in someone else’s lab, I broke it somehow (it had been held together by duct tape so not entirely my fault) & it started smoking. Meanwhile a student next to me is counting wasps and muttering “oops” every few min & I realize there are wasps flying around
I wouldn’t be where I am today without the tremendous support of @seumcnair, these SEU mentors and @ScienceMouse7 (not pictured)
Looking forward to giving back to my community by speaking at my alma mater tomorrow night to highlight and celebrate #FirstGen student voices ✨🐐

I'm so tired of people, explicitly & implicitly, politically & rhetorically, abandoning the South when a) our poorest & least economically & physically mobile are here, & b) millions of QT people & POC will have no choice but to be born & raised here. We cannot abandon the South.
Y’all don’t understand… Tops on Jefferson… is in the hood… in Buffalo… probably the Blackest neighborhood in Western NY… and somebody drove over four hours to come and shoot it up… literally because of skin color
You may be hearing the argument that before the rise of modern commercial infant formula, babies all ate breastmilk and everything was great. As a historian of infant feeding, let me tell you why that’s not true.
@erinomarakunz@PaoloAPalma I’ve done this with students designing 2x2 experiments in small groups - lots of fun! Had a 4 hr class with lab though. Happy to share materials if you DM me
The domestic terrorism that HBCUs are faced with needs to be discussed.
On this first day of #BlackHistoryMonth , my plans have shifted. I will teach my children about 28 of the 107 HBCUs in the US. We will learn their role in creating Black excellence.
