It's time to register for the SciREN Triangle Networking Fair & Educator Open House to be held Sept 28th 6-8:30PM @ NC Museum of Natural Sciences! We cannot WAIT to celebrate SciREN Triangle's 10th anniversary with all of you incredible researchers and educators 🎉 Links below 👇
The preprint for our #NASAEXPORTS paper on #microbial#respiration at in the North Pacific and Atlantic is available! We "watch microbes breathe" using frequent optode measurements. See how respiration dynamics in these systems affect the #biogeochemistry and #carbon cycle.
We describe a fairly stable, low activity system in the N. Pacific where most of gross primary production is respired. Using the modified assays in the Atlantic we describe trends across several size classes in a stormy system with dynamic biogeochemistry.
Thank you @NatGeo & @Disney
for an unforgettable experience!
@HalleBailey is a beautiful soul. Halle in this role means so much to so many & even more to those protecting our oceans. We couldn’t have asked for a better princess. Make sure to see #TheLittleMermaid this weekend!
Hey look, I'm defending next week! If you'd like a zoom link and you haven't gotten one yet - send me a message! PS I'm also on the job market, interested in science communication, microbial genetics, and bacterial genome evolution :) #PhD#biotech

Aliyah Griffith, PhD student at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, tells us about her journey into marine science, some of the setbacks she has encountered, and her achievements to date. Read the interview on our news site ⬇️
The 2022 @UNC_EMES grad student retreat was amazing! Loved spending time outdoors with fellow students and learning about some cool science. And HUGE thank you to @drjanetnye and @AntonioBRodrig for spending some time with us ☀️
As it’s #NationalBookMonth I am proud to say I’m officially a children’s book author! “My Secret Mermaid” is about a little black girl finding her connection with the sea through a trip to the aquarium. I’m so excited to share this after 2yrs. Link in my bio for more info🤗
We play this fun game with the ocean color wheel on our office door where someone sets it to synechococcus and I set it to literally anything else. 🎨🌎
Maybe I should make a heterotrophic bacteria wheel of my model organisms… 🦠
