Arguably, @CDCgov set itself up for this backlash when it failed to self-monitor harms of flawed opioid policy created by its 2016 Opioid Guideline. If no one else had measured the resulting harms (suffering from loss of pain care, suicides to escape uncontrolled pain, deaths from overdoses of illicit fentalogues), even more Americans would have died or suffered unnecessarily.

CDC yielded to an anti-opioid agenda and PROPaganda intended to support lucrative MDLs against opioid manufacturers and distributors, while knowing illicit fentalogues drove deaths by 2015. It violated its own rules for handling conflicts when creating its 2016 Opiod Guideline, sacrificing its own institutional integrity.

Now is CDC’s #FAFO moment. By focusing on politics over science (which was complicated and nuanced) in the opioid therapy space, CDC put aide its actual mission (to control and prevent infectious disease), then fumbled its COVID-19 response, losing more credibility with the American public. That has opened the door for more anti-science rhetoric and empowered ongoing attacks on vaccines.

But it all started with bad opioid polices. 🤦🏻‍��️
