In the last group out on Thursday, Mississauga's Matthew Anderson shot up the leaderboard and has a share of the lead at the @RBCCanadianOpen.
@jasonSCOREGolf has more on the 26-year-old @KornFerryTour member, who is tied with some marquee names.

Three over through four holes today, things looked bleak for @ahadwingolf. Then he allowed himself to fail and found success, flipping the script on his round to make it to the @RBCCanadianOpen weekend. To be even better, he must play braver.

Thursday PM course report from the @RBCCanadianOpen
- I touched on the power of ๐จ๐ฆ Matthew Anderson in my Wednesday tweet and the guy goes out and shoots a 6-under 64 and is tied for the lead. He teed off at 2:27 p.m., the last group of the day, and is not first on the leaderboard. Unreal.
- The Brooks Koepka, Nick Taylor and Ryan Fox group was vibing this afternoon, shooting a combined 13 under par. Fun group, they all seemed to enjoy playing with each other. If you are heading up to the course in the morning tomorrow, I suggest following them.
- I have seen it many times, but I still can't get over Ryan Fox's golf swing. Such a unique move and setup, I love watching it.
- Koepka and Fox play at a lightning quick pace, not that Taylor is slow by any means, the other two just move at a different clip. I would love to know how fast the two of them could get around the course if no one were in front of them.
- Lots of chatter on the grounds about what the crowds will be like tomorrow. Canada kicks off their World Cup campaign at BMO Field at 3:00 p.m., Blue Jays v. Yankees at 7:37 p.m. Those events will no doubt be of interest to a large group of sports fans in the GTA.
Day one done โ
Playing in the last group out today, Mississauga's Matthew Anderson kept a clean scorecard and is tied for the lead at the @RBCCanadianOpen. He shares that spot with some big names, including a 5x major champion. Day One story from @TPC_Toronto.

In the last group out today, Mississauga's Matthew Anderson takes a share of the first-round lead at the @RBCCanadianOpen. He's tied with Brooks Koepka, Sam Burns, Sahith Theegala, Eric Cole and Emiliano Grillo at 6 under par. Photo courtesy @TPC_Toronto.
A number of Canadians are in red figures after the morning wave at the @RBCCanadianOpen.
Adam Svenssson is currently the low Canuck after carding a 5-under 65 Thursday morning at @TPC_Toronto.
Thursday AM course report from the @RBCCanadianOpen:
- A wet and windy start to the day at @TPC_Toronto, with a good hour of steady rain between 9:15 - 9:45. Players noted were receptive during the lead-up, will be even more so now.
- Lots of birdies early, especially on the front nine. Last year, 9-under 61 was the low mark after round one. Seems like the lead will be around there again.
- A bunch of Canadian flags on the leaderboard, including Adam Svensson who is currently tied for second.
- Crowds are getting bigger, lots of people around the first tee for the all Canadian group of Mike Weir, Mackenzie Hughes and Adam Hadwin.
Heading back out now
Wednesday range report from the @RBCCanadianOpen:
- Lots of energy on the grounds today at @TPC_Toronto. A lot of the big names were on-site working on their game, great vibe out there.
- Brooks Koepka was grinding on the putting green. His struggles with the flat stick have been well documented (136th in strokes gained putting this season), but clearly, he is working hard to find something.
- I was digging Haotong Li's range routine: show up, walk up and down the range cracking jokes, chirping other players, eat a sandwich while signing autographs, then start hitting.
- I could (and basically did) watch Tommy Fleetwood hit flighted wedges all day. His action is so smooth.
- Canadian Matthew Anderson, who plays on the @KornFerryTour and is a member of the @GolfCanada team, absolutely nukes the ball. He ranks 15th on the KFT in driving distance, averaging 315 yards per drive, which would rank in the top 20 on the @PGATOUR.
Back tomorrow with more.
Corey Conners on the future of the @RBCCanadianOpen in a two-track @PGATour competition structure:
Conners: "I care a lot about this event. The Open factor, you know, it's always been nice to have 21 Canadians, allow some young Canadian players to play at such an elite event. So definitely I think there's going to be some changes. As I said, nothing's been quite decided, but I'm optimistic that the @RBCCanadianOpen's going to continue to thrive and hopefully it can continue to be a big part of the @PGATOUR, and I can continue trying to chase down the trophy."
Ryan Fox on returning to the @RBCCanadianOpen as the defending champion.
Fox: "Yeah, obviously this is different for me. There are a few more obligations with everything there. Also, you kind of know you're going to be in a marquee group as well. I've got Nick Taylor and Brooks Koepka, which is a pretty big group on Thursday and Friday. So you're kind of up for everything a bit more than what you are on a normal week."
The @RBCCanadianOpen, @CanadaSoccerEN's opening @FIFAWorldCup match and a @BlueJays v. @Yankees game are all happening within hours of one another on Friday.
I mapped out how to attend all three...and at what cost.
