A large part of our work is emotional support, including providing rapid access to long term trauma informed counselling for issues such as addiction. Today, we’re sharing the story of one of our clients who transformed her life with counselling and other support from ScotsCare over the years.
Facing an incredibly difficult situation, Allison overcame addiction, an abusive relationship, eviction, and financial hardship — all while raising her son.
Her counselling support from us sparked a new passion, and today Allison is fully qualified as a counsellor herself, using her experiences to support others.

Finding shelter: Derek’s story 💙
Derek moved from Scotland to London in 1987, building a career in the electrical industry. But after years of ill health, including diabetes, he struggled to keep working.
As his situation worsened, his mental health declined and he became homeless—spending nights on buses and trains.
At crisis point, Derek contacted ScotsCare. With support from Outreach Worker Patricia, things began to change. Being offered sheltered housing was “a lifesaver.” Therapy through ScotsCare also helped him rebuild his mental wellbeing.
Today, Derek is alcohol-free, managing his health, and part of a supportive community.
“I would very highly recommend ScotsCare to anyone who is struggling with life.”

📽️ Many of our followers might want to give a new documentary on YouTube a look. It explores Scottish identity, history and culture in the capital and how Scots have had their impact. We get an honourable mention at 3:28, as do many of the Scots in London group!
Through personal stories the film shows how Scottish Londoners balance everyday city life with a sense of heritage. Many feel more connected to their roots while living away, keeping traditions alive through food, music, sport, and Burns Nights. It looks at how, Scottish identity is woven into the city's life—adapting, evolving, and helping shape London while preserving a sense of pride and belonging. 🎞️

Thank you to ScotsCare supporter Maya, who made this fantastic tribute Scots Box, as part of her GCSE Design and Technology project. The Scots Box was an integral part of the beginning of ScotsCare starting back in 1603, when Scots merchants and craftsmen would regularly contribute money to it, in aid of their less fortunate compatriots.
