Humility and gentleness are some of the most beautiful fruits of the Spirit, and I pray that anyone who has been hurt by stories like this from the pulpit would know the true gentleness of Jesus.

This kind of theological posture from this pastor is maybe more damaging that the original sermon. Instead of listening to the thoughtful rebuke that his sermon could have been seen as demeaning and predatory, he writes it all off as “evil people” “attacking Christianity”.

But as is often the case, hubris gets in the way, and he doubles down. “God told me to watch out for the evil people.” I make this hurtful error all the time. I assume I’m right, and I use my self-righteous anger on all comers. But we cannot do that.
