President Trump said he spoke with U.S. citizen Stephen Hubbard on Wednesday after the 74-year-old was released from Russian custody, telling reporters Hubbard is "the happiest man around."

"This was very surprising to him, but I did it," Trump said. "It really took place on a phone call at the end of last week with President Putin."

Hubbard was jailed in Russia for more than four years after being accused of fighting for Ukraine.

🚨 BREAKING: President Trump says he got Stephen Hubbard out of Russia with one phone call to Putin, and America gave up NOTHING for him.

Hubbard was detained in Russia during the Biden years. Per Trump, nobody expected him to get out for 20 or 25 years. Trump asked Putin to release him on a call late last week, and Putin agreed.

Hubbard is on a flight home now with Steve Witkoff, and his family flew over to meet him.
