@Andrewnsnyder It depends on what you’re wanting most from the translation. Singleton for an accurate prose version. Sayers for notes (but NOT text). Mandelbaun for reliable poetry. Pinsky/Merwin for enchanting poetry. Esolen best overall (text+poetry+notes).
David Burrell died last week. He was a major contributor to contemporary scholarship on Aquinas, divine action and creation, and the relationship between the Jewish, Christian, and Islamic traditions in philosophy. These are some representative works. RIP.
Alasdair MacIntyre: “Charles De Koninck is the major author of the most important development of Thomism in the twentieth century, often referred to as Laval Thomism. And its greatest exponent after De Koninck himself was the most important philosopher who has ever taught in the Notre Dame philosophy department, Ralph McInerny”
@mattleeanderson So glad to have you officially onboard in the Honors College. Of course, you’ve been doing great work with us for some time now! We’re grateful for your many contributions.
@leachfortexas Well done. But it shouldn’t be just for those who work there. It’s for those serving sentences as well. We show our humanity by how we treat those committed to our care.
Best classrooms on the planet! Dr. Moore (@ScottHMoore) lecturing on the Pre-Socratic philosophers in Miletus, the birthplace of philosophy, and Dr. Whitlark reading Acts 19 in the theater at Ephesus where the riot against St. Paul occurred.
