Flood Alerts are in force across much of Scotland’s central belt due to heavy rain forecast from early on Sunday morning. Not all areas will be affected, but where the heaviest showers develop a lot of rain could fall quickly.

In towns and cities, water may struggle to drain away. This could cause surface water flooding on roads and around properties, difficult driving conditions and travel disruption.

This follows confirmation from Scottish Water that there is no further issue at this site.

Scotland's rivers remain under pressure as hot and dry conditions return, with very low flows persisting across much of the country.

The River Teviot and Ettrick Water have now seen 39 consecutive days of very low flows, and Mid Lower Dee and Water of Feugh have also moved into Significant Scarcity.

A very high wildfire warning is in place for Eastern Highlands, Eastern and Southern Scotland from today (Wednesday, 12 August) until Thursday, 13 August.

Everyone should avoid lighting outdoor fires or barbecues. A single spark can cause significant damage.

We have extended temporary restrictions on licensed water abstraction across parts of the Scottish Borders after the River Teviot and Ettrick Water reached Significant Water Scarcity.

The restrictions apply to further licences, primarily supporting agricultural activities, and follow measures already in place in the Lunan Water, Lower Don, North Fife and Fife (East Neuk) catchments.
