Josh Kirby (1928–2001) was a British illustrator born in Liverpool and one of the most important figures in 20th-century science fiction and fantasy illustration. He began his career working in advertising and film posters before moving into book cover illustration. Although he created hundreds of works for the genre, he became especially renowned for his iconic covers for Discworld, Terry Pratchett’s fantasy series, for which he created 26 paintings. Pratchett summed up his importance perfectly with the words: “I only invented the Discworld, Josh created it.” 🎨
