I think he is more useful remaining a key Democrat voice. A reminder of what they used to be. Let them wage war on him. It will only highlight hires far to the left they have moved. If he becomes Republican he will be simply dismissed as just another Republican. He’s more dangerous to them as a Democrat and that’s why they hate him so much.
