@KevOnStage I'm a 5th degree black belt. I've been training my 8 yr old son since he was two. I teach him never to intentionally hurt anyone, but always defend himself, which has levels. I've taught him how to block, dodge, slip, bob, weave, etc. But if he has to, he's allowed to attack.
