@LordZula It was still retconned. We saw Gohan having control over the form even when he's not enraged (vs Kibito), which later disappeared when he had to face Dabra.
That retcon, of course, applied to everyone else as well to adjust the story to it (Shin also got brutally retconned).
@LordZula Yeah, but that was Majin Vegeta (SSJ2) vs FP SSJ Gohan (that lost his SSJ2 after the Budokai).
Dabra and Gohan were relatives, Vegeta would've been a bit stronger but not by much had he not been possessed, and M. Vegeta ended with a SSJ2 just a bit stronger than Gohan's vs Cell.
@LordZula I think that Vegeta was always planned to be a bit stronger than Gohan at the beginning of the Bu arc (before Gohan got its developement that arc, that is), and as plans changed and Gohan was made weaker, so was Vegeta (and of course, Goku as well, though we don't see it).
@LordZula If Majin Vegeta was just a bit above Gohan's SSJ2, then there isn't much margin for a weaker SSJ2 to be there, because Gohan's was already on the weaker end of the form (proved by Goku surpassing it).
@LordZula In the budokai it was implied that he had the SSJ2 and that it was stronger than Gohan's when he fought Cell.
But when in Majin, their powers are depicted as not much above Gohan's SSJ2 (so his Majin became what was implied he already got in the Budokai).
@LordZula In the exact same way Gohan's SSJ2 got retconned and he forgot it against Dabra.
Furthermore, when their powers as SSJ2 are compared to Gohan's, they're depicted as stronger but not by much.
If Vegeta was already a SSJ2, the majin powerup would've been pointless...
@GalacticMj Panel 1: Vegeta kicks.
Panel 2: Goku blocks
Panel 3: Goku's expression showing this wasn't an easy block, which means the fight won't be fast as Goku said.
All of them add some new info.
What's the info added by panels 1 and 2 of Toyotaro's page that we can't see in the 3rd?
@GalacticMj Black's Rosé was weakened enough that Vegeta's SSJGod was could react to it.
But as soon as fused Zamas appeared Vegeta jumped straight to Blue.
And that's precisely because that kind of tactic only works if the weaker form is somewhat comparable to your foe (5% weaker at most).
@GalacticMj Black vs Vegeta is exactly the same.
Black's Rosé is weakened due to him having used it vs Trunks before the fight started.
The tactic was only posible because Zamas wasn't aware of the weakness of the "Blue" form.
@LordZula That "too" isn't Vegeta, but Gohan.
As Vegeta explains, he realized Goku had surpassed him and let Babidi take control of his body in order to power up.
In the Tenkaichi Budokai it was implied he had it and here maybe he still had it, but after the retcon he didn't.
@hikaru2X Well, he's the one being beaten at that moment and with his Ki going down fast as a result of that.
Its only normal Piccolo prioritizes him, besides the fact he's the one he respects the most.
@GalacticMj In other words, if I was to criticize Toyotaro I wouldn't use that page, because in the context of the manga its published it serves its purpose and it's fast to read and digest.
But since you compared it with the one from Toriyama, that one had better pace and showed more.
@GalacticMj Since those actions happen simultaniously and they're both already depicted in 1 panel, the other 2 don't add any new information.
I'm not saying its bad, because that scene is precisely in anticipation of Goku's lesser Hakai, but the pacing is slower than in Toriyama's page.
@GalacticMj Toriyama shows 2 actions (Vegeta kicking and Goku blocking) and Goku's reaction to Vegeta's attack, which is important to the developement of the fight.
Toyotaro shows 1 action and that's it, it's the same 1 action on the whole page (2 fighters flying towards the other one).
