How RECRUITING actually works👇
• Give coaches the info they need WHEN they want it
• Be so good they show up for YOU
College Coaches don’t chase tournaments…
They chase players worth watching.
I saw less than 20 coaches total all weekend…some games, I was the only set of eyes on ANY field 🤯
In those 20 conversations, it was evident and clear who they were there to see. It wasn’t by chance that they showed up!!
My point 👉🏼Tourneys will shout and tout about “exposure” and “college coaches attending” but the truth is unless the players are handling business before, during, and after tourneys, no one is being seen, evaluated, or exposed 💯
It goes beyond social media and tagging coaches. It goes beyond just showing up and hoping to be seen. It goes beyond just thinking that they’ll find you.

Last month, PureTalk asked me to make a sixty second homemade commercial for the Internet, touting their nationwide 5G coverage and their very affordable monthly rates. I agreed. As you may know, Pure Talk not only sponsors my podcast, they support my foundation, and I’ve been publicly singing their praises for some time now. So, I recorded a very simple commercial on my cell phone. Nothing fancy, just an honest explanation about why I switched from Verizon to Pure Talk, in my own words. I also included a shout-out to a Medal of Honor recipient named @ClintRomesha , whom I met on my podcast through Pure Talk, and mentioned his work with America’s Warrior Partnership, a terrific charity serving our veterans that @PureTalk has supported for years.
Anyway, I sent Pure Talk the ad, and they loved it. In fact, they asked me if they could put it on television. I said “sure!” I’ve been arguing for years that the cost of production has little to do with the popularity of a TV show or the effectiveness of an ad, so I was interested to see how a homemade commercial that cost zero dollars to make would perform on primetime TV. Well, in short, it blew the doors off. This thing has been airing all over the place for the last few weeks, and according to my contact at PureTalk, a LOT of people have switched from Verizon after seeing this ad. Likewise, a lot of people have purchased Clint’s amazing book, Red Platoon, and looked in to supporting America’s Warrior Partnership. Win/Win!
I realize most of you couldn’t care less about the fate of another commercial for a wireless company, but a few days ago, something interesting happened. Verizon asked the networks to stop airing my homemade commercial. And the networks immediately complied.
Am I shocked? No. In this business, money talks, and Verizon is a $185 billion dollar company that buys more media in a week than Pure Talk buys all year. If they say “jump,” the ad execs say, “how high?” But still, I was surprised that Verizon would be so heavy-handed. Pure Talk will be fine, obviously, and so will I. In fact, I’m headed down to my office right now to record a new ad. But I feel bad about Clint Romesha, and America’s Warrior Partnership. They were getting some much-needed exposure, and if I were in Verizon’s place, I might have thought twice about silencing my competition in such a way.
I’d love to get your thoughts. Was I out of line? Was I too mean to Verizon? Or, does the largest wireless company in the country have a remarkably thin skin? I’ve attached the original commercial below, along with a short eulogy for the cheapest most effective ad in the history of modern advertising.
Give it a look and tell me what you think.
I have a HUGE favor to ask all of my student athlete followers. Go have some fun this week! The recruiting process can be a stressful grind, so reward yourself with some (safe) fun and just enjoy life a little bit! If that fun involves adorable dogs and/or puppies, tag me.
Back in the day ….. recruiting tactic … show up early not wearing my school’s colors… watch players… who carried their own bags (not the parents), who was excited to be there, how did they act before a 7AM Sunday morning game, did they whine or did their parents… oh so many wonderful stories. Great memories
Registration is open for our annual Ks Classics softball camp!
Lots of college coaches will be in attendance.

NEW: Student athletes walked out of a meeting with SSU interim Pres Emily F. Cutrer on Wednesday afternoon, fed up with a lack of answers around the admin's decision to cut its 11 athletic programs.
“It was ugly, a lot of people were very upset."
