๐๏ธOn this episode of #KidsFirst, host Keven Cohen and South Carolina Public Charter School District Superintendent Chris Neeley break down one of the most talked about changes to come out of this legislative session, the elimination of grade floors in South Carolina public schools. No more automatic 50s for missing work. No more cushion for skipped assignments. Just a straightforward return to earning what you get. Chris and Keven bring their trademark candor to this one, and the conversation covers a lot more ground than just grades, including a landmark accountability bill and major changes to the South Carolina High School League.

๐๏ธOn this episode of #KidsFirst, Principal Nanette Davis of Greer Preparatory Academy shares how a bold, low-tech approach to education is changing the lives of students and families in the Upstate. From locking up devices at the start of each school day to going back to paper and pencil, Greer Prep is proving that sometimes the most powerful thing a school can do is slow down and create real space for real connection. Add in a Teacher of the Year, a robotics team that made it to Worlds, and a brand new campus opening this June, and there is a lot to celebrate in year one.

Some lessons go far beyond the classroom.
On this Memorial Day, we take time to remember and honor those who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice is part of the foundation that allows our students to learn, grow, and pursue their futures. Because of them, weโre able to continue the work of putting #KidsFirst every day.
๐๏ธOn this episode of #KidsFirst, Josh Trahan from Fox Creek High School in North Augusta shares something that stopped us in our tracks. He looks his teachers in the eye and tells them sincerely that they are the lifeblood of the organization. He goes even further, saying that if the entire admin team called in sick, school would go on just fine, because it is the teachers who truly make Fox Creek what it is.
Their moods, their energy, and the way they show up every single day are what get passed on to every child as they walk from class to class. This is the kind of humble, people-first leadership that builds a culture families drive across county lines to be a part of. It is a refreshing and deeply moving reminder of what a truly great school looks like from the inside out.
