Take a look at the 1968 McLaren M6A-3 Penske Can-Am. A car that proves preparation can beat pure horsepower.

Originally built by Bruce McLaren, this machine was transformed by Roger Penske, master mechanic Karl Kainhofer, and driver Mark Donohue into a championship contender. Through relentless testing, innovative engineering, and meticulous attention to detail, it defeated the factory team at the 1968 Bridgehampton Can-Am race—cementing its place in motorsports history.

For more than 50 years, San Diego's legendary "Highwayman," Tom Weller, patrolled local roads looking for stranded motorists in need of help. Rain or shine, day or night, he stopped to assist more than 10,000 drivers—and never charged a dime.

His one-of-a-kind rescue vehicle, Beulah, is now on display at the San Diego Automotive Museum as a tribute to a man who turned a simple act of kindness into a lifetime mission.

Last year, IGNITE Academy participants helped transform a Nissan 370Z street car into a complete race car under the mentorship of professional mechanics. The car was raced at Laguna Seca in 2026 and can now be viewed in our Museum.

Our signature IGNITE Academy provides participants ages 13–20 with the opportunity to receive hands-on STEAM training across automotive mechanics, media, entrepreneurship, and peer practice while building career-ready and transferable skills for the automotive industry and beyond.
