₹2 Crore Cash, 5 Buildings Unearthed in Vigilance Raid on Kandhamal AEE

13 High-Value Plots, Gold Jewellery and Investments Also Detected During Searches

Odisha Vigilance on Saturday unearthed massive assets allegedly linked to Sri Baikuntha Nath Behera, Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE), ITDA, Baliguda in Kandhamal district, during simultaneous searches at multiple locations.

The searches led to the seizure of ₹2 crore cash from bank lockers, besides detection of five multi-storeyed buildings, 13 high-value plots, cash, gold ornaments and other financial investments.

According to Vigilance officials, searches are still continuing and further details are awaited.

Major Assets Unearthed So Far
• ₹2 crore cash recovered from bank lockers operated in the name of the spouse of the AEE at Axis Bank and UBI, Chandrasekharpur Branch, Bhubaneswar.
• Five multi-storeyed buildings traced, including four palatial buildings in Bhubaneswar and one in Jajpur district.
Buildings Detected
• Four-storeyed building measuring around 10,500 sq ft at Niladri Vihar, Chandrasekharpur, Bhubaneswar.
• Triple-storeyed building at Sailashree Vihar, Bhubaneswar.
• Double-storeyed building at Kanan Vihar, Patia, Bhubaneswar.
• Another double-storeyed building at Chandrasekharpur, Bhubaneswar.
• Double-storeyed building constructed on ancestral land at Pandua in Jajpur district.
Land Properties
• Thirteen high-value plots detected.
• Seven plots located in prime areas of Bhubaneswar, including Niladri Vihar, Sailashree Vihar, Bomikhal and Ghatikia.
• Five plots traced in Dharmasala area of Jajpur district.
• One plot detected in Baripada.

I checked latest RBI data on their site and found this.
1) Gold value reduced from 11.45 trillion rupees to 10.98 trillion rupees (from May 15 to May 22), a drop of 4%. Same in dollar terms also: ~4% drop.
2) If total gold stock is same, this is possible only if prices reduced in that ratio. In that week, prices were nearly steady (15-22 May 2026).
3) So if RBI did sell, it could mean roughly 20-30 T of gold. (variation depending on 22-carat or 24-carat).
