On 7/5/26 just after midnight more than 100 SDFD personnel responded to a 3-alarm fire at an abandoned commercial building in Serra Mesa. Firefighters achieved knockdown at 5:05am. Crews remained on scene for the next several hours for mop up. No injuries or transports #SDFD

The San Diego Police Department is advising residents to shelter in place due to a severed gas line in the 1200 block of Essex Street from Vermont Street to Richmond Street.

🚨 Traffic Advisory 🚨

SDPD and San Diego Fire-Rescue are responding to a brush fire near Santo Rd. and Friars Rd.

For public safety, eastbound Friars Rd. at Santo Rd. is currently closed while firefighters work to contain the fire and prevent further spread.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area, use alternate routes, and expect significant traffic delays.

Please follow directions from first responders and remain alert to changing conditions.

1st alarm crews are currently on scene of vegetation fire located on the hillside near Friars Rd. and Santo Rd. Crews are actively protecting structures at the top of the hill and are working to extinguish the fire from the ground and air. Please avoid the area.

#SorrentoFire [Update]: The fire is now 60% contained. Multiple brush rigs and engine companies will remain in the area throughout the day to search for and extinguish any remaining hot spots and continue strengthening containment lines.

🟢 All evacuation orders and warnings for this fire have been lifted.

Residents may return to all evacuated areas.

🚧 Road closures on Sorrento Valley Blvd remain in place, but access will be allowed for residents with proper identification and credentialed news media.

Please continue to use caution around the fire area. Fire crews and emergency personnel are still working in the area, and some hazards may remain.

❌ The temporary evacuation point at Mandell Weiss Eastgate Park is now closed.
