@BlakeJewellNFL If you adjust for the era in which they played, Isaac Curtis jumps way up in the conversation. Right now it’s Chad, Isaac, AJ for me. Collinsworth and Pick a coin flip for 4th, Chase coming up fast on the outside.
@CodyBader_@KelseyLConway@Enquirer He looked pretty lost to me in the last game, though I only watched him closely for a few series. He actually missed a snap on one play and remained in his stance for a couple of ticks.
@CharlieG__ I’m in the minority here, but I think we’ll see him again in a middle relief role. Take away his first inning stats and look at how he pitched 2 through 4. Our pen is gassed, we have two rookies whise innings need to be watched, and we need a guy in relief who can go 3+.
@thall767@RedsInFour It’s very tempting to think about Lorenzen starting the games in place of Weaver. I just thought the asking price was too high for someone who’d play 8 or 9 games. The Phillies gave up their 5th best prospect. Good luck signing him.
@thall767@RedsInFour Great guy, glad he threw a no-hitter. Wish we hadn’t dealt him in the first place. But how many games would he have affected in the 8 of 9 skid?
@ron18787996@MaizeBlue2@CharlieG__ You may be right about moving him from his natural position; CF didn’t help him on the injury front. (Use case for why Elly should not be moved there, IMO.) But he was not going to yield an MLB-ready reliever.
@Dan_Hoard Any observations about the offense when led by Siemians vs. Browning? I thought Browning played well last preseason. An intercamp scrimmage arguably a better test.
@CharlieG__ Pitching on three straight days is why you don’t make that change, especially with a spent pen. There is a weird, bipolar dynamic with this team. They either follow the metrics despite the limited data sets with a roster of rookies or flaunt them however poorly it turns out.
@tin_mh@Reds@stustuuu When I saw the relay throw, I thought he was dead. Stopping midway after running through the stop sign would never be a good decision, but it probably helped him here; his slide was brilliant.
@aklin3@RedsFan_Brandon You’re right; but pulling a young starter who’s thrown 70 pitches and running out three bullpen guys among the leaders in appearances was not a Gold Medal recipe. This was a day after he embarrassed a guy who is hurt and let him face a historic shelling. Getting hard to defend.
@Nati_Sports Managers getting intentionally objected to try to spark a floundering team has been a thing since Grover Cleveland was in the White House. See Anderson, Sparky, and Pinella, Lou.
@Nati_Sports Bell gave Williamson an early hook last night. With a weary pen and Weaver on deck, it was clearly a bad decision. The Abbott pull, maybe a few outs early, but he was getting tattooed and you don’t want a rookie who is your ace to get embarrassed. What else did he do wrong?
@Nati_Sports@MrOtto937513 Traded him for WHAT? He has a negative career WAR. I liked him when he came up and the injuries have been a shame, but there is no way he would have yielded a difference making player for this season.
@tallcityaggie@RyanFeyh@CharlieG__ They ARE winning now. Nine games over .500 and still in 1st (though they will leave this game with some paddle marks on their asses). Michael Lorenzen took the 5th best player in the Phillies org. You want to give up someone like Connor Phillips to get Lorenzen for two months?
@mattburnett6288 @LanceMcAlister Agree, though he wasn’t dealt a good hand this year, either. Loads of rookie talent in the pipeline, but no assurances that any would succeed at this level and no position players signed for 2024. Easy to overlook the difficulty of building a winging culture with those Legos.
@BaatzScott@LanceMcAlister Do you think that managing a team that dumped everyone but the people selling beer and popcorn in the stands last year may have something to do with his won/loss record? And do you feel the front office gets no credit for landing the team that everyone in MLB is talking about?
@errolflynnsword@BallySportsCIN@Reds@ellylacocoa18 Those guys played 90+ years ago. Has anyone done it recently? That’s a question, not snark; I know the Reds hadn’t done it in 104 years but I haven’t seen a stat on the most recent MLB occurrence.
