Biopsy revealing :
Seriously, we (this group of Infectious Diseases physicians) are INTENSELY concerned for the health of Albertans and the damage to our health care system if we don’t change course. This can’t continue, it will further compromise COVID care, non COVID care, and HCW health.
Noon at the Ledge in Edmonton, at McDougall Centre in Calgary. Bring a hat, some water, a snack, and your vigour. We need exponential growth of these #s to win. We're counting on you, and counting you. 7/
Even so, it appears that there is an over-reliance on hospitalizations and ICU admissions as the primary indicators. I am worried that this will lag too far behind spread of the virus in the community.
The pace at which public health measures are ending is troubling. I do not disagree that moving from pandemic state to endemic state is the future but would strongly advocate for a less precipitous approach.
I’m really worried for the next month. Hospitals are already full and in 1-2 weeks some of these people will end up in ICU. We do not have capacity for this. Please stay home and only go out for essential services. If the government won’t say it, I will. We need lockdown ASAP!
Ontario & Quebec #COVID19 numbers - public health interventions are (slowly) working.
Alberta & Manitoba seeing worrying spikes in cases, with ICU capacity an issue in Winnipeg.
Global experience: Fewer & fewer options to control spread when cases get this high.
Results of the WHO SOLIDARITY trial:
30 countries & 11,266 adults with #COVID19 randomized to Remdesivir, Hydroxychloroquine, Lopinavir, Interferon or no study drug.
None of these regimens had any real benefit on mortality or length of hospital stay.
