Cadet Tysen King of Big Sioux Comp Sqdn was presented with CAP's prestigious Brigadier General Billy Mitchell Award recently.
A 2026 Sioux Valley High School graduate, Tysen has enlisted in the US Air Force and will become a Geospatial Intelligence Specialist.

With the craziness of Days 0 and 1 (and Day -1) behind us, things have settled into a routine for Day 2 (23 June 2025).

At 1300 MDT Saturday, most of the Basic Level Cadets, also known as general attendees, arrived at Camp Rapid for in-processing for the Joint Dakota Cadet Encampment. It runs 21-29 June 2025 in Rapid City. The cadets and staff represent eighteen states.

Col Tom Theis, NCR commander presented the award, accepted on behalf of the wing by Col Kevin Pegelow, SD Wing commander.

SD Wing has received a prestigious award - the CAP National Commander's Unit Citation.
The rare award was announced at the joining SD Wing/North Central Region conference this past weekend.
The award recognizes multiple distinctive accomplishments of the wing during 2024.
An airborne photograph exercise began this weekend's CAP North Central Region and South Dakota wing conference.
Photographers checked their camera kit inventories and reviewed camera checklists and settings. Then they took a series of photographs and came back to critique them.

The cadets of Big Sioux Composite Squadron were thrilled to use the G1000 simulator during their meeting last evening.
Many CAP aircraft have the G1000 system, which replaces the old-style gauges and greatly enhances our capability for search and rescue and disaster relief.
