London councils have been found to be acting unlawfully by shipping homeless families hundreds of miles north overnight in taxis with no warning, no local connections, and no support, because it was cheaper than housing them in London.
Labour's Awaab's Law means local authorities must:
🚨Resolve emergency issues in social housing within 24 hours of it being reported.
🌧️Address damp and mould within 10 days.
🏘️Hold social housing providers to account.

Southwark Council has issued a statement in the wake of the murder of a man in Bermondsey yesterday.
Text reads:
Cllr David Watson, Executive Member for Community Safety and Engagement, said: “I'm shocked and saddened to hear about the death of one of our residents and our thoughts are with his family, friends and loved ones.
“Police have launched a murder investigation and if you have information, or CCTV or doorbell camera footage that could help, please contact them."
Anyone with information or footage can contact 101, quoting CAD 5315/10JUN26, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
Starmer betrayed his manifesto promise.
He may be on the way out, but he is still giving “punishment beatings” to leaseholders.
His Bill will trash the value of our homes and protect the service charge racket for Big Freehold and rent-seeking lawyers.

The govt is doing a review of access to face-to-face banking. For many elderly and vulnerable people in person banking is crucial and we need to protect it. The review wants your view, you can feed in here... https://t.co/vcOGgz9l5i
2/In London, housebuilding starts have collapsed by 84% over the last ten years.
At the same time, real wages have grown by just 0.2% per year since the last financial crash 2008.
This isn’t a supply problem —
it’s a purchasing power crisis.
THERE IS NO UK H0USING CRISIS.. BUT AN ECONOMIC CRISIS ‼️
MILLIONS NEW+USED HOMES ARE SITTING EMPTY+UNSOLD
Rightmove listings are at an 11-year high, with thousands of new homes sitting vacant +unsold.
Developers have slowed building because they can’t shift existing stock./
1. Ballymore marketed High Point Village as "an oasis of calm."
Service charge on a 1-bed: marketed at £2,014. Now £7,834. Up 289%!
Meanwhile: regular heating failures, cladding issues, audits three years late.
Calm isn't the word that comes to mind.👇
#LeaseholdReform#BuyToLet
@LostInSW19@mtpennycook@UKLabour service charges might be the most invisible number in the whole market — they decide whether a flat is sellable or stuck, and there's still nowhere to search by them. buyers typically only find out once they're deep into conveyancing.
@NormaCohen3@HarryScoffin The term “service charge” gives a bit too much dignity to the reality, blank invoices that are signed with property forfeiture from some random pawn shop based in Abkhazia
@moving_charlie Existing leaseholders also trapped. Service charges at our @ballymore development in zone 5 west London for a 1 bed are circa £8k and for a 2 bed are circa £10.5k this year. Everyone is desperate to sell and escape but no one is buying an unlimited leasehold debt liability.
A waiting list with 10,000 people on it.
Dozens of empty new flats.
Developers panicking about existing new build projects.
There’s no housing shortage.
No one can afford them.
