In Japanese storytelling they have the concept of 'Ma'.

It's the powerful pause or negative space that gives everything else meaning. Like the silence between notes in music. Emptiness isn't empty. It's full of possibility.

In Seven Samurai the story seemingly stops after 3 horrific battles, and just before the great final battle. Rain comes down on the village and we see a peaceful little innocent village. The story takes a breath to remind us what's at stake before unleashing Hell.

That's Ma. Use it to your advantage so your story isn't just another Hollywood copy paste.
