The Sarco suicide capsule is likely to be used for first time in Switzerland this year providing an alternative to lethal injections or medication. This will change the way we think about ‘assisted’ suicide because the assistance will be almost zero.

Dementia villages might be ok for some. You become another old person kept alive and comfortable until you fade away completely …your previous glorious life completely unknown to those around you. Personally, I’d prefer an exit before this time comes.

There is a surprising lack of interest in the euthanasia debate in religious circles in Germany. Very encouraging sign in a country where assisted suicide is not currently banned, and a new bill promoting right to self-determined dying is before parliament

Euthanasia legislation in most countries is too restrictive, with patients having to beg for help near the end of life. Patients in Hawaii had to make 2 oral requests 20 days apart to receive lethal prescription – now cut to 5 days.

Sarco suicide module arrives at Hilversum NL for display at the 50th birthday celebration of Dutch assisted dying organisation NVVE, with 175K members the largest assisted dying group in the world..Sarco to be part of a discussion on ‘death and dying in the next 50 years’.
er.. but Tim doesn’t have to suffer, he can get one of the 3 Ns (Nembutal, Nitrogen or Nitrite) and have an affordable peaceful, reliable unassisted UK death now (see Sept 9, Exit UK w/shop) - Terminally-ill man wants a Swiss death - but can't afford to https://t.co/xAM7B8U1jr
The Netherlands understands that suffering isn’t just for adults. New law will allow children under 12 years, suffering unbearably with no hope of recovery, to have an assisted death. Hopefully other countries will show similar enlightened compassion.

..but Exit runs suicide classes for the elderly teaching methods that are reliable & peaceful, and Aust classes are full! (Dwn 14th April & Sydney 22nd) Silent issue of suicide among older Australian men a growing concern,https://t.co/zVAisHnseh via @ABCaustralia
The French President has instructed parliament to consider euthanasia laws. Opinion polls show 70% support. However, the French medical association opposes this, reflecting a similar pattern in other countries. The doctors position makes no sense at all.

Excellent news from Spain where its Constitutional Court has dismissed a challenge to the recent euthanasia laws. When a Catholic country like Spain can lead the world in euthanasia reform you have to wonder where it’s all going wrong in other countries.

The world’s first physician assisted suicide was carried out in Northern Territories, Australia, by Philip Nitschke, before the Federal govt banned it. Now the region is stubbornly refusing to pass a law, even though most of the country has done so.

The New Zealand law needs a massive overhaul. The current law is very restrictive, forcing many to live and suffer a fate worse than death. People with mental illness such as Alzheimer’s are excluded even with advanced directives.

A new study shows increased support for assisted dying in the UK (although it’s still illegal), making the region one of the most liberal in Europe . The same study showed only 18% found suicide justifiable. A rather surprising contradiction in thinking.

Making the sick jump through hoops and beg doctors for help to die is a strange way of “bringing comfort”….”historic milestone would bring comfort to many South Australians” Twenty apply to use SA's assisted dying pathway https://t.co/Y6O1sFyYa1
Questions are still being asked about high assisted suicide stats in Canada. Such questioning is based on the false assumption that ‘every suicide is a tragedy’. The real tragedy is forcing people to suffer unbearably, despite their clear wish to die.
