Catching up on an excellent article by @brendapower in #SIndo . She says, ‘Just as youth is wasted on the young, retirement is often wasted on the old’. Correctly she references @DonaldTrump @MickJagger & @PaulMcCartney all flying it still in their 80’s ! Pension crisis coming down the tracks if people retire when ‘society’ either expects or demands of them to do so . Rethink for the sake of economy needed ! I think if I didn’t know my age , I could still be playing for @KilcumminGAA , thanks be to God ! They say , hard work , never killed anyone but as Brenda points out retirement has !! As Brenda wrote , ‘We need to up our game ‘ !!!

There was a big turnout at Killarney Racecourse last Sunday for the Hone & Garden fair . Charge at the gate was the lowest I have encountered at such events - €10 👏. Many fine stalls & services . It's been a busy and productive week here in Strasbourg, with plenty of votes, discussions, and engaging debate under the new format in the European Parliament!

There is a huge amount going on at a European level over the next while, and Ireland is about to take over the leadership of the European Council for our 6 month presidency. There are going to be a lot of events and celebrations over the next few weeks as it begins, so make sure to look out for events and initiatives near you!

This is a v important summit,as intelligent & broad-minded citizens of UK know that closer relationships with the EU would be mutually beneficial. @Keir_Starmer is showing practical good sense & good judgement which will benefit UK citizens - unlike , the catastrophic #Brexit which is a disaster for UK’s good citizens .

While there is some hope for peace between the US and Iran now, we must temper that hope with realism.

We must also remain focused on the violations of international law being carried out by Israel. Their incursions and bombing in Lebanon should not be overlooked or passed over by the churn of the news cycle.

The EU must work to apply pressure to stop Israel's annexation of Lebanese land, and bombing of Lebanese people. With the broader regional peace depending on this, and US patience with Israel wearing thin, now is the time for the EU to use its economic and political influence to promote peace

Busy week here in Strasbourg! 🇪🇺🇮🇪

We've lots of important debates and votes on the agenda, and will be trying a new format to allow for more back and forth, and greater scrutiny of commissioners. Let's see how it goes!

On top of that, I'll be hoping to wrap up negotiations on the ENVI Committee opinion of the post 2027 Common Agricultural Policy (the CAP), the EU's largest and most important budget item

Back from @EPPGroup v successful summer university at lovely @GalwayBayHotel , catching up with ag. news @farmersjournal . I agree completely with @ajwwoods editorial on Nature Restoration plan .’The plan will last until 2050, so a 30day consultation period isn’t enough ‘. - especially as this is a v busy time on farms. The rules of engagement are clear - no compulsion & , special funding outside of CAP for Nature Restoration measures ! Extend consultation period to get best possible input . As the @Aldi_Ireland ad. says, ‘it isn’t complicated’ ! Just do it !

With Ireland taking over the Presidency of the Council of the EU next month, Europe has an opportunity to advance its key priorities: security, competitiveness, migration and stronger transatlantic ties.

Europe needs pragmatic leadership and ambitious solutions. Ireland will play a crucial role in shaping the agenda.
