You keep ranchers profitable, open grazing land, protect them from drought and losses, expand American processing, encourage them to retain heifers, all of which the Trump USDA is doing —and while those cows reproduce, you temporarily supplement hamburger supply. What exactly is the alternative? Tell Americans to pay $9 a pound for hamburger for three years while we wait for calves to grow up?

I dont understand why, in the last 2 yrs, things havent been done to assist in the recovery and growth of the herds. I also dont understand why we cant, as we used to be able to do, go to a rancher, buy a head of beef, have it locally butchered n take it home to feed our family.

The amount of beef he’s allowing to be imported will not last a month nationwide. Also what he’s allowing in is strictly for ground beef not finished steaks. I truly don’t believe it’ll have any effect on the market. To truly do the rancher some long term good he needs to bust up the monopoly on processing!!
