Stolas was shown to have a friendless background, isolated in his gilded cage. And that prior to Blitz, he had no experiences, starfished even to Stella.
In Apology Tour, Stolas cried that he just wanted someone to care for him, as though the concept was unknown to him.
Vassago suddenly bursting in as not only an old friend, but an old *flame*, contradicts all of that, in a very irritating way.
