SEARI will be hosting a Seminar on “My Chineseness is Different: A Case Study of Identity Formation amongst Chinese Youth in Singapore and Malaysia" by @orsontwk on 24 August 2023, 4:00-5:00 pm at Locke 611 and via Zoom.
SEARI, together with RITS and the Dept. of Political Science and International Relations at UC is pleased to present as part of the 3rd Canterbury Conference on Indo-Pacific Security, a webinar on Enduring Alliances and Security Partnerships in the Indo-Pacific. (1/2)
As each expert presented in turn, we discovered that all the presentations involved threats to democracy and increased autocratization. So SEARI decided to organise a workshop, sending out a general call for papers while encouraging SEARI members and affiliates to participate.
SEARI is delighted to announce the publication of the book "Democratic Recession, Autocratization, and Democratic Backlash in Southeast Asia" edited by SEARI's own Prof. James Ockey and Dr. Naimah S. Talib.

This book began at a seminar organized by the Southeast Asia Research Initiative at the University of Canterbury. SEARI organizes regular “Southeast Asia Update” seminars, where country experts give a brief presentation on a topic of interest for their respective countries.
Our hybrid event on Security Alignments in the Indo-Pacific is fast approaching and we're happy to note that slots for in-person attendance have been filled in!
