Woods Fire at 50% containment

SEDONA, Ariz., Aug. 15, 2025 — Firefighters working on the Woods Fire have been successful in suppressing and securing the perimeter around the wildfire achieving 50% containment and will transition to a local Type 4 organization tomorrow morning.

A more accurate mapping of the wildfire located 2 miles east of the Village of Oak Creek puts it at 59 acres. It has been determined to be a lightning-caused fire.

High humidity provided favorable conditions for firefighters, allowing use of natural landscape and human-made barriers to keep the fire within its existing footprint.

Firefighters plan to continue securing the perimeter around the fire, monitoring and extinguishing any hot spots that may still exist internal to the perimeter as they work toward full containment and preparing for possible monsoon storms. Resources assigned include two engines, one helicopter and medic team. Total personnel assigned is 35.

Some smoke may be visible in the area of the fire as internal fuels continue to smolder. This will likely continue for several days until firefighters are able to extinguish them.

Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office removed the “SET” status at noon today for affected residents in the Village of Oak Creek east of state Route 179 due to threats being mitigated. Additionally, the temporary flight restriction has been lifted for the area over the fire.

For public health and safety, a closure order was issued for the area around the fire, which closes trails through the area, such as Jacks Canyon, Woods Canyon, and Hot Loop. The order remains in effect.

Partners that have assisted in the suppression and management of this fire include Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, YC Office of Emergency Management, and Sedona Fire District.
