Let me provide context and clarity, In defence of Acting Dir. Kannemeyer, his intervention is not about undermining merit, but about demanding real transformation. For too long, Stellenbosch Municipality has recycled the same pattern of appointing white males to top posts, sidelining internal talent here at Stellenbosch Municipality we have a policy termed Recruitment & Selection Policy 2024/2025. The concern is clear: every major appointment ends up with the same outcome. Infrastructure, technical services & water services remain dominated by white managers. This is not coincidence, it’s a structural practice that undermines equity & confidence among staff. Acting Dir. Kannemeyer argues that overlooking internal candidates sends a dangerous message; that our own staff are not capable or competent. This erodes morale & blocks the growth of young, skilled professionals from disadvantaged backgrounds. We must remember, that transformation is a constitutional & moral imperative. Stellenbosch Municipality cannot claim progress while reproducing exclusion. Acting Dir. Kannemeyer’s voice reflects the frustration of many who want a municipality that mirrors the diversity & talent of its people. My Defense for Acting Dir. Kannemeyer is paramount to defending transformation. His stand is about justice, representation & fairness. Stellenbosch Municipality must break the cycle, otherwise we remain trapped in an untransformed environment. #Equity #Leadership #Transformation
