Africa’s most honest architecture is increasingly coming from its women.
Nzinga B. Mboup grew up between Mozambique, Cameroon, South Africa and Senegal. She saw what colonial urbanism did to African cities. Then she decided to build differently.
Her practice Worofila works with compressed earth bricks, typha plant fiber, and self-supporting earthen vaults, materials that have kept people cool in West Africa for centuries. In Dakar, where concrete dominates because it’s cheap and politically convenient, that is a radical act.
She puts it plainly: Why did we ever stop building with earth?”
Nobody has a good answer.

Especially the good things, the big amazing breakthroughs! The love, the family, the friends, the beauty, the joy.. don't ever think it can't happen to you too!
Most people think self-awareness is noticing their flaws. It’s not. Real self-awareness is noticing the motives beneath your virtues and the desires beneath your flaws. When you can see why you do the “good” things and what you’re protecting with the “bad” ones, the whole inner map changes. That’s when growth stops being performance and becomes honesty.
“I hate drama” coming from the person who’s the actual cause of the drama is rarely ever about drama itself. It’s about inconvenience. What they really mean is “I hate being confronted,” “I hate having to be emotionally present,” or “I hate when someone challenges the version of myself I’m trying to keep up.” It’s not about your tone. It’s not about the issue. It’s about the discomfort they feel when they’re being asked to look at themselves or take emotional responsibility and they don’t want to. So they brand your valid concern or reaction as drama, hoping to shut it down quickly and turn the focus back onto you, making you look irrational or overly emotional.
grief has hammered me into a specific shape & i’m slowly remembering all the things i used to do when i was capable of other shapes, versions of me that hadn’t experienced so much change so quickly. it’s like regrowing phantom limbs, a familiar stretch i didn’t know i’d forgotten
no one talks about the personality shift as you get older. where you no longer want to be impressive, you want to be rested. you want to be regulated and completely unavailable to anything that drains you
Im rooting for everyone 30+ who is in a season of actualizing their dreams, pivoting into a new career they’ve always wanted, going back to school with direction & clarity, reentering the work force or starting a new venture with a goal, vision & plan in hand!
