Actually it is God that gave us scripture, not the Church, not any church.
II Tim 3:16-17
“16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God[a] may be thoroughly equipped for every good work”
It depends on whether you are more in line with Paul in your views, or James. According to Paul works do not justify us, according to certain readings of what James wrote they have a place. But where that breaks down is the thief on the cross, he had no time for works, unless you think Y'Shua lied to him, and I am not going there.
Yup, you are still my brother no matter which church you attend. I attend a Messianic synagogue, most of us see ourselves as Jews, not Protestants, or Catholics, we have some former Catholics, and Protestants. Our Shabbat services are a good bit different than either the Catholic, or Protestant services.
I have a bookshelf that I keep my worn out Bibles on, I write a lot of thoughts and notes in the margins so I keep them. I am going to have to buy or build something more substantial though, it can't carry the weight. I started hanging onto my Bibles in Jr. High School, and I read the Bible through pretty much every year. Sometimes a bit more than that if I am teaching, but my health has not been great this last year so I haven't done much teaching, plus one of my brothers passed, he was a Catholic, grew up Lutheran but his wife was Catholic so he changed churches. Personally I don't think what church you go to is nearly as important as you going. All of the disagreements we have really amount to minor issues, not affecting salvation.
I understand what you have written perfectly well, I just don't agree with the conclusions you have come to. Most people not in the mind space of Catholicism would not come to your conclusions in my experience because they don't make sense, you really have to pull the spiritual taffy hard and in unnatural directions to get where you are. And, it contradicts the Bible in multiple places if your views are the assumed correct ones, and scripture doesn't contradict itself.
I am not interested in arguing with you. I suggest that you reread what I wrote. I never said it was a beyond dispute fact He did, what I said is that things He said, and how He said them make me think it is quite possible He spent time there. And you would find, if you bothered to look, that I am far from the only one who has noted those similarities. So, if it's all the same to you, I will continue to hold my opinion, formed way back when I was getting my Doctor of Divinity, instead of dumping it for some armchair theologian. Have a blessed day.
@dmsevoac@Nickisbackbaby All correct. I don't believe that they understood that one could fulfill both the Kingly and Priestly role. But I do believe He had contact with them, His teachings and methods were very reminiscent of them.
If you are ever feeling weak, feel free to reach out to me. I worked as a Pastor for the students of Teen Challenge for 15 years, or for that matter reach out to Teen Challenge directly. It is technically an Assembly of God ministry, but it is a paraclete ministry, so they really don't care about which church you go to, or even if you go at all. They just want you to have freedom. And we all have a weak moment now and then, usually all it takes is someone willing to listen to get you through it, or godly advice. Neither they, nor I would try to convert you. If you have a Catholic resource like that all the better, I just want to see you live free.
My mom spent her teen years in a Jewish ghetto in Düsseldorf Germany, Nazi Germany. Watching that vile pos come to power. She was sent by my grandparents to care for my great grandmother, they got out of Germany on the last boat to leave Bremerhaven before Germany invaded Poland. She had some choice words for old Adolph, but I would probably be kicked off X for using them.
@JillA0420@TheStaad It is all of that, and it can be used to buy food, clothing, shelter, etc. for those less fortunate. Oddly enough there is at least one Christian church that literally has tons of the stuff they could part with.
