Real Coaching Isn’t PlayStation
You’re not holding a controller.
You’re not pressing buttons to make a player pass.
You’re not yelling “shoot” and expecting your player to suddenly execute with composure, vision, and precision.
You’re a coach, not a gamer.
Far too often sidelines sound like FIFA commentary:
- “Move there!”
- “Press him!”
- “Pass!”
- “Turn!”
- “Why didn’t you shoot?!”
This isn’t real coaching.
It’s joysticking and it kills player development.
Because while you’re micromanaging every touch and every step...
Players stop thinking for themselves.
They freeze under pressure.
They look to the bench instead of reading the game.
Real coaching looks like:
- Training decision-making in practice
- Letting players fail
- Asking questions instead of shouting commands
The game isn’t about what you see.
It’s about what they experience.
If you’re still controlling every pass, ask yourself:
Are you building players who can think, or just players who can follow instructions?
