The decision of whether to run for re-election has not been easy. I truly love the job of being a United States Senator.
But in my heart, I know it’s time to pass the torch.
So, I am announcing today that I will not be seeking re-election at the end of my term.
I just returned from a Congressional Delegation to the Balkans, where I met with Balkan leaders and citizens to discuss how America has served as a force for peace in the region.
As autocracies like China and Russia attempt to obtain a foothold in the region, America must remain steadfast in our engagement with our Balkan friends.
This sweeping Russia sanctions bill passed Congress with broad bipartisan support aimed at ending Putin’s war on Ukraine. And yet, President Trump has once again opted for capitulation to the Kremlin. Lindsey Graham, John McCain, and Ronald Reagan must be turning in their graves.
Breaking News: President Trump signed an executive order to exempt Russia from new sanctions legislation that Congress passed last month. https://t.co/8KuQ5fuOjq
Navy Pier is a Chicago icon and an incredible a source of entertainment for Illinoisans and visitors alike.
It has been my pleasure to advocate for federal investments for @NavyPier while in Congress, and I was honored to be recognized at their annual gala last night.
America must stand with Ukraine, not the Russian war criminal, Vladimir Putin.
Donald Trump’s decision to buy Russian gas and limit the sharing of critical intelligence with Ukraine is an abandonment of our ally and will cause more violence and bloodshed.
The disruption of Starshield systems will only prolong Putin’s brutal war in Ukraine and puts American personnel at risk.
I joined a bipartisan group of colleagues to demand the DOD Inspector General immediately investigate this restriction on Ukraine’s ability to defend itself.
State and local officials are working tirelessly to combat these efforts and ensure that every eligible American will be able to cast a ballot and have their vote counted in the midterms—and voters should have confidence that the rule of law and our democracy will prevail. (2/2)
Over the last year, DOJ and the FBI have seized ballots, threatened election officials, and worked with DHS in an attempt to undermine the election administration powers of states.
I joined my colleagues to press both agencies to provide a full accounting of these efforts. (1/2)
I’d like to extend my deepest gratitude to the men and women of the Mount Prospect and Palatine police departments who thwarted this horrific mass shooting plot.
Hate has no home in Illinois, and this incident is a reminder that we must remain vigilant against prejudice and bigotry.
Police in a Chicago suburb announced that they had thwarted a potential mass shooting, arresting a 19-year-old man who they said may have planned to target a Hindu place of worship. https://t.co/piThxqG6YS
I was honored to be recognized by @cmapillinois today for my work in support our state’s infrastructure.
CMAP has been an invaluable partner in making sure Illinoisans have a safe and efficient route to get wherever they need to go for decades to come. I look forward to continuing to see CMAP’s leadership make a difference across Illinois.
September’s inflation report confirms what we already know, that President Trumps bungled war with Iran is behind the outrageous increase in the cost of living over the past few months.
Americans need an end to these price hikes, not endless wars in the Middle East.
I joined my colleagues in urging President Trump to rescind his recent agreement allowing Russian-origin diesel fuel into global markets.
This deal will offer little to no relief to Americans struggling with high energy costs, and instead recklessly and shamefully help finance Putin’s horrific attacks on Ukraine.
Some final photos from my Congressional Delegation with @SenatorShaheen to the Balkans last week, where we visited Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, Montenegro, Croatia, and Kosovo.
While there has been great progress since the collapse of former Yugoslavia, many challenges remain three decades after the signing of the Dayton Accords. The United States must continue to support healing and reconciliation in the region.
Today is Indigenous Peoples’ Day—a day where we reflect on the many contributions Native Americans have made to our nation as its first inhabitants. May we continue to celebrate and honor indigenous peoples’ cultures, histories, and legacies today and every day.
No Bears fan will ever forget the day when the Monsters of the Midway triumphed over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XX.
That legendary season solidified a place in history for da coach, Mike Ditka, who led the Bears with a sense of style, grace, and respect for the game.
Loretta and I will be praying for his family, friends, and former players as well as the millions of Chicagoans and Bears fans in mourning.
After Trump’s war with Iran caused oil prices to spike, the President is now considering bankrolling Russia’s slaughter of Ukrainian civilians.
Lifting sanctions on Russia will only fuel Putin’s war machine and prolong the conflict in Ukraine.
Today, I called on the Inspector General at DOJ to investigate why the FBI modified its hiring standards to allow those who stole from an employer, paid for sex, and engaged in bestiality to work for the Bureau.
If Kash Patel won’t give us answers on these hiring changes, we need someone who will.
Sen. DURBIN: Do you believe those who have stolen from employers, solicited sex, or engaged in bestiality are qualified candidates the FBI is losing?
Patel: They still have to go through the same rigorous application process.
The U.S. military plans to livestream the execution of Nidal Hasan, the ex-Army major who was convicted of the 2009 killing of 13 people at Fort Hood, when he faces a firing squad on Dec. 3, a Pentagon official said.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said earlier Thursday the Pentagon planned to make the execution public.
Hasan's case could mark the military's first execution of an American service member since 1961.
Pleased to join @SenatorShaheen to meet with @BajramBegajAL, whose country is a strong American and NATO ally that is also taking big steps to join the EU, as well as U.S. Ambassador Wendt, who recently arrived in Tiranë to assume this important post.
The Srebrenica massacre was genocide and an atrocity that must never be allowed to take place again.
Yesterday, I joined @SenatorShaheen to visit the Srebrenica Memorial Center to pay our respects and remember the victims of this tragedy.
Cassidy Hutchinson displayed true courage when she testified about how President Trump incited a deadly mob to attack the Capitol.
The President’s targeting of her shows yet again that he’s more concerned with imprisoning his opponents than the cost-of-living crisis impacting Americans across the country.
BREAKING via Punchbowl
The Justice Department is seeking a federal criminal indictment of former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson on charges of lying to Congress about President Donald Trump's actions during the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
