WHAT DOES AUCTION GRADE ACTUALLY MEAN? 🇯🇵
If you follow our direct import listings, you'll often see:
Auction Grade: 4
Auction Grade: 4.5
Auction Grade: 5
Sometimes even R.
So what do these grades actually tell you?
Japanese auction houses inspect vehicles before they're listed for sale. The auction sheet gives us an independent assessment of the vehicle's overall condition, alongside notes on the body, interior, mileage and any repairs or defects identified.
Here's a simple guide:
GRADE 6
Exceptional condition. Usually extremely low mileage and close to new.
GRADE 5
Excellent condition with very minimal signs of use.
GRADE 4.5
Very good condition. Generally clean with only minor imperfections.
GRADE 4
Good condition with normal signs of use expected for its age and mileage.
GRADE 3.5
More noticeable wear, scratches or minor dents may be present. This doesn't necessarily make it a bad vehicle — the actual auction sheet needs to be assessed.
R / RA GRADE
The vehicle has a repair history.
This could range from a replaced panel to more significant previous repairs, which is why we don't judge an R-grade vehicle on the letter alone. We review what was repaired, where it was repaired and the overall condition of the vehicle.
And that's the important part:
An auction grade is a useful starting point, but it doesn't tell the entire story.
At Kai & Karo, we look beyond the headline grade. We review the auction sheet, inspector's notes, mileage, interior grade, body markings and available condition photos before recommending a unit.
If there's a replaced panel, repair history or notable defect, we disclose it.
After 10+ years sourcing vehicles from Japan, we've learnt that buying well isn't simply about finding the highest grade.
It's about understanding exactly what you're buying.
That's the transparency we want our clients to have before committing to a vehicle.

I was just minding my own business then this video poped up.
This is how radical Rigathi Gachagua was and still is.
This is how deep the hatred that he had for Raila Odinga and the Luo community.
Rigathi Gachagua was very divisive when he was in power.
This Eldoret accident along Timber is disturbing. From the video, driver fatigue could be one possible factor, especially given the sudden loss of control.
