The State Bar failed to put the necessary safeguards in place on its own, so the Legislature did. That's why I authored SB 47 (Umberg), requiring this independent audit to provide a full accounting of what went wrong.

At 250 years young, our nation has accomplished so much, but the work of building a more perfect Union continues. Together, we must keep striving to strengthen our democracy and ensure the promise of America reaches every generation.
Happy Fourth of July!
Today, as we celebrate 250 years of American independence, we honor the servicemembers, veterans, and generations of Americans whose courage and sacrifice have protected the freedoms we enjoy.
Thank you to @City_of_Anaheim Council Member Kristen Maahs for traveling to Sacramento on Tuesday to testify in support of Cal Cities-sponsored SB 490 by @SenatorUmberg! The bill requires timely investigations of sober living homes accused of providing treatment services in violation of state licensure laws.
We appreciate the Assembly Health Committee for advancing SB 490 and helping strengthen accountability. ๐
This bill was inspired by baby Samantha and every exhausted parent whoโs finally gotten a baby to sleep, only to have a blaring streaming ad ruin it. SB 576 brings some much-needed peace and quiet by making sure streaming ads arenโt louder than the shows we want to watch.

Today, the Supreme Court got it right - every eligible citizen should have the opportunity to vote and the confidence that their ballot will be counted.
California has long shown that voting can be both accessible and secure. We must continue protecting that standard against efforts to undermine participation.
SB 623 is proof that when stakeholders come together instead of taking competing measures to the ballot, Californians win.
Thank you to Governor Newsom for signing this important bill, and to everyone who worked together to put Californians first.
SB 623 is a testament to the fact that the best public policy is often built through negotiation. Instead of taking competing measures to the ballot, stakeholders came together and reached a solution that better protects Californians.
