Concerns about endorsement
One can hardly imagine my shock when I read the Gazette’s editorial last Sunday. Without even knowing who might be on the Republican ballot for the now open 5th Congressional seat, before campaigns are even launched, the Gazette editorial board endorsed one of the candidates — a former congressional staff member, 20-year radio talk show and now podcast host subsidized by Americans for Prosperity (an organization that advocates for open borders and releasing felons from prison); a man whose resume shows he is a two-time failed candidate for Congress who has been running for that office for the past 16 years.
The Gazette offered no interview opportunity to other candidates. All of this before anyone has qualified to be on the ballot and while other viable candidates might still enter the race. I guess sending someone who claims to be a Washington, D.C., insider to drain the swamp is The Gazette’s formula for good representation.

The Gazette’s editorial highlights a concern many of us who serve our community have shared for a long time. That is that there is a small group of people — the oligarchs — who seek to control our community and its elected officials — mostly for their own good and not that of the citizens or the community at large. You all know their names. So, I need not call them out.
Once again, the local syndicate of our community, with the assistance of the Gazette’s Editorial Board wants to decide the outcome of an election before the campaign starts.
Having served as an international election observer, I have learned that the way the powerful steal elections from the voters is not at the ballot box, but by controlling the media and access to the ballot before the election even starts. Don’t let that happen here.""
