Our people remain fundamentally convinced that the same people and institutions that crossed the Atlantic Ocean in wooden ships and turned our grandparents into transatlantic commodities are now back here to "help" us in line with "global best practises."
The people who have a declassified State Department report stating that our population growth is a threat to their "national security" for some unspecified reason, have suddenly taken such an interest in our food and health systems. Definitely for our own good though. There can be no other reason.
Maybe when the next mass extinction hits Africa, we will finally learn something about self preservation and logical deduction this time, but I'm not entirely hopeful. Because knowing us, we will somehow survive gormlessly as usual, having no wider reason or purpose for the survival than a song in our throats, some food in our belly, a dance on our feet, and a warm body to sleep with afterward.
1.2 billion people sleepwalking for 500 years.
I’m not even deluded anymore. At this pace, if there isn’t a drastic course correction Nigeria is not going to make it. Maybe when we start telling ourselves the truth of the country being at the brink of collapse, then there’ll be more urgency in demanding accountability
We Nigerians need to understand and admit that the country is in deep trouble. We must realize we are at war and must start standing for something!

I just returned from a one week trip to Nigeria travelling by road doing Lagos - Sagamu - Abeokuta - Ibadan - Sagamu - Lagos - Ibadan - Osogbo - Erin Osun - Ibadan - Sagamu - Lagos, and I need to get this off my chest.
