A 7th grader of my acquaintance described the standard pedagogy of his teachers as follows: “Here are a bunch of facts. Tell them back to me next week and you’ll get a good grade”
Pleased by the discussion my piece in today’s NYT (https://t.co/v8olp0H5WG) is stirring up, but wincing at the misleading click-bait headline. I don’t want all students to get A’s! (I want them to be free of grades.) Gist of the essay is that excellence isn’t inherently scarce
1/4 An aha! moment for many educators is the realization that kids needn’t be force-fed facts as a prerequisite for thinking. Rather, in the best classrooms, knowledge is acquired BY making sense of ideas, designing projects, exploring, etc...
How will our beautiful country and it’s deeply wounded people ever have the opportunity for meaningful healing when white folk persist in using such abhorrent references? How on earth can any human being think it is okay to trample on the dignity of others?

#Noseweek have had a call from #Vodacom's PRO pleading with us to remove the telephone number of their CEO, #SakiMakozoma from our website as he is being overwhelmed by complainants' calls. It's still there if you need it.
