@maklelan @AJKocman I am not a Hebrew scholar, but BDB says its first meaning is "temporary dweller." Agreed it looks like its nuance shifts with time/writing. TDOT says this happens most often in the OT because of famine/war. Those could be temporary with a return. Your post is maybe too strong?

@alisa_childers Alisa, if this is true, have you read BDB, HALOT, TDOT, NIDOTTE, and others to get a full sense of this גֵּר? It is a complex word that shifts through time and is worth looking at more deeply. If people are fleeing famine, war, etc, how could they wait for green cards?

2. If our society wants to be friendly towards having children, this is what it means. Who's going to pay for all the retirees to golf? My children.
