Rémi Quirion, President of INGSA & Québec Chief Scientist officially opened #INGSA2024 with his opening remarks sharing that,
"Capacity building globally is the core of INGSA and of course Africa is a critical component of INGSA, as the first chapter established."
"There is something unique & unusual about the approach. It is clear the Global South is the focus and that is where the seeds were sawn, grown and flourished, and then projected back again to the Global North. It has a lot to say about inclusivity and embracing diversity."
"Breakthroughs happen after decades of investment in discovery science. Science is about health, jobs, economic wealth and security. We need to anticipate the future of science earlier, to address the various inequalities faced within our societies." - @JeremyFarrar#INGSA2024

Yesterday, on #OECday, as we inaugurated our Headquarters, I stated that – beyond pomp and ceremony – this marked the authentic commencement of the executive phase of the OEC as the first intergovernmental organisation of the South.
Today, we give substance to that statement by holding the first session of the Conference of Associate Members (CAM), hence activating one of the subsidiary organs of the OEC General Assembly.
For in addition to being intergovernmental, our collective Organisation also distinguishes itself, by counting civil society and academic bodies as Associate Members, as an intersectoral platform. This visionary, structural peculiarity established by our Member States through our Constitutive Charter is one which recognises that #TheFutureWeWant cannot be realised by any one government, any one organisation, nor any one initiative – it requires a collective, concerted, sustained, and sustainable effort.
The CAM is hence an indispensable forum and instrument of the OEC, ensuring the proactive involvement of all sectors of society within our endeavours to construct a third way of development – from the South, by the South, and for Humanity.
Our Member States and our Associate Members, together, represent the confederation and union necessary for our movement of transformation to bear fruit.
My congratulations to all our Associate Members for holding their first session as an organ of the OEC, and I look forward to engaging with them, individually and collectively, to transform – in the words of the Universal Declaration of Balanced and Inclusive Education – "eluding aspirations into palpable reality".
