Spain has faced an extremely serious crisis while defending a European border.

And at that moment, the European right—both the openly Eurosceptic parties and those that claim to be pro-European—acted like vultures, trying to damage a government they dislike simply because it does not belong to their political family.

Forty-eight hours later, the migrants are back in Morocco, with no European help or solidarity whatsoever, while several governments, including those of Italy and Finland, behaved like genuine Trumpists.

The good news is that Spain is not like that. Spanish troops will still go to Finland to help protect Europe's eastern border. And when another country faces a crisis, Spain will do whatever it can to help.

It's called moral superiority. We are not vultures.

Based on current information, the Cebreros station appears to have remained unharmed. My deepest thanks go to the Spanish emergency services whose efforts helped protect the site as wildfires approached.

The safety of our people remains my highest priority. All ESA workforce is safe and accounted for, although many colleagues continue to be affected by the wider emergency situation. I keep you all in my thoughts.

We remain in close contact with the relevant authorities as the situation continues to evolve. As always, I will keep my workforce and the public informed. Please keep safe.
