BIZARRE WORM SEX

Humans and all the higher animals have evolved from the worm. That’s not quite as bad as it appears at first blush, at least not in one important area, because of the more than one million different species on earth none has a more bizarre and sensational sex life than the worm.

For openers, the common earthworm possesses both male and female genitalia; when two worms copulate they impregnate each other, thus achieving maximum mileage for time, energy and bodies. This far-out hermaphroditism pales in contrast to the sexual antics of other worms, particularly the parasitic varieties. These latter include in their affaires de coeur such diversions as wholesale incest, rape of newly born or even not-yet-born females, cannibalism, transformation of body parts and other eye-popping examples of sexual phantasmagoria.
