What happens:
• He gets into a taxi to go back to his hotel.
• The normal fare should be around 200-300 TL.
• The driver demands 50 euros (~2,675 TL) upfront, and Auger agrees.
• The driver then charges 136 euros (~7,300 TL) from his card (Auger later clarified the bank statement showed $186).
The post highlights this as a classic tourist scam by an Istanbul taxi driver (license plate 34 THY 10 is visible and widely shared). The video shows Auger confronting or reacting to the overcharge.
Reaction:
The post blew up (1.6M+ views), with heavy backlash against Istanbul taxi scams, calls for the driver to be punished (fines, license revocation, arrest), and broader complaints about how this damages Turkey’s tourism reputation. The Istanbul Taxi Drivers Association also responded, saying they’re investigating.
