Inspecting a Welsh woollen blanket in the stores @AmgueddfaWlan. The Blanket Wall in the Textile Gallery displays a selection of the Museum’s extensive collection of blankets from woollen mills across Wales - a spell-binding story of the Welsh Woollen industry #SaveOurHeritage
Each year 100s of objects of archaeological significance are found by metal detectorists in Wales. Of these, around 75 are discoveries of Treasure as defined in the Treasure Act. PAS Cymru is the only mechanism in Wales that responds to archaeological finds made by the public.
Many of the staff who work across @AmgueddfaCymru have unique skills, such as the traditional craft skills on display @StFagans_Museum. It is vitally important that skills like these are preserved before they are lost
Did you know that @AmgueddfaCymru has over 5 million natural history specimens in its collections?
These collections along with the expertise of the staff that look after and research them are an invaluable resource in monitoring environmental & climate change 🐯🕷️🪱🐌🦋🦀🦕🌼💎
John Kenyon FSA
We remember with admiration our colleague John Kenyon. A distinguished scholar in medieval castle studies, @CastleKenyon was Honorary Research Fellow as well as librarian at @AmgueddfaCymru & recent President of @CambriansArch
A real loss to Welsh #archaeology
The collections @AmgueddfaCymru need to be cared for by expert staff.
They make them accessible across Cymru & the world, and carry out vital research in recognising & monitoring the diversity of animal and plant life.
