A colleague asked for help working with remote teams across timezones. What are your top tips?
Mine:
- Think and manage overlap not timezone difference
- Send recap messages
- Use short recorded video
@Lethain Pace yourself.
Be disciplined about making time to reflect and record your observations, impressions, and how you're feeling. Record why you're excited, what you're nervous about for you in +6 months.
We've been hard at work speeding up cold starts in #serverless applications using Prisma!
We're excited to say we've sped up cold start times by ~9x⚡️
Check out this blog post to see how we did it and get real insights into what affected those times:

Hello 👋 I'm looking for my next challenge! I prefer smaller orgs (10-100), remote-first culture and Elixir/Erlang stacks. Love solving problems and helping others be their best selves❤️ Looking for eng leadership opportunities, can be hands-on.
RTs appreciated 🙏
If you've been told to "think big picture" and you are struggling to carve out time or make use of it to focus on strategy work, these notes could help you get unstuck.

I am looking to angel invest in a couple startups that fit the following:
- Hard tech: either hardware or hardware adjacent
- Software doing something that has never been done before and would be hard for someone to replicate if you get there, something very hard.
If this is you please reach out because I might be interested :)
My value add would be general advice, any software infra help / hiring you need & of course overall optimism :)
I remember really enjoying working on it. The design evolved considerably from its earliest version. It was a great substrate for digging into OTP and thinking about concurrent systems.
🎉pooler has a new home and a new maintainer.
What's pooler? A connection pool library Erlang (or Elixir).
@seriyps thank you for reaching out and thanks for your work to make pooler available to those that find it useful!

It's amazing (and gratifying) to see code I put out into the world in 2010 still find use. Here's the first commit:

Its original name was pidq, playing off of a queue of Erlang process ids or pids.
Even when you aren’t directly involved in setting the vision at a company level, transmitting it is a fundamentally creative act. You’re telling a story about the future. Your job is to describe the world that could be.

The story carries us beyond what we know today acting as a bridge over uncertainty. Whether that bridge feels solid or shaky depends on our level of belief in the story.
@yrashk I read this first as finance terminology -- too much tech debt, so we're decapitalizing the sql. 🤣
The SQL spec lists reserved words in caps, beyond that I haven't found a "why" beyond aesthetic preference. Have you?

This week I wrote about dealing with feeling overwhelmed at work. It's something we all experience, especially as engineering leaders.
What do you do when you find yourself in overwhelm mode?
