The future of our region is inseparable from the future of Sudan.
Today in Khartoum, I met with H.E. Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, Chairman of the Sovereign Council of Sudan. Our discussions focused on the current situation in Sudan and the collective responsibility to advance a lasting, Sudanese-led peace.
As a strategic bridge between Africa and the Middle East, peace in Sudan is vital not only for regional stability but, above all, for the millions of Sudanese who continue to bear the greatest burden of this conflict.
IGAD will continue to support the people of Sudan in their pursuit of peace, stability, and recovery.

Empowering Women and Youth MSMEs through Digital Trade
Today in Djibouti, IGAD, through the Horn of Africa Digital Market Integration (HDMI) Project – Phase I, under the Economic Cooperation & Regional Integration Division, launched the first in-Country Training and mentorship on Gender-Sensitive Digital Trade for women and youth MSMEs.
The three-day training will apply Gender Action Learning Systems methodology to mentor and equip the participants with practical knowledge and skills in gender-sensitive digital trade, e-commerce, digital marketing, and digital financial services, enabling them to unlock business opportunities, grow their enterprises and attain competitive advantage under the African Continental Free Trade Area (@AfCFTA).
The initiative is part of IGAD's regional initiative aimed at training and mentoring 245 women and youth MSMEs across the IGAD Member States, strengthening inclusive digital trade ecosystems and advancing regional economic integration, funded by the African Development Bank.

🎓 Opening More Doors Through Education.
A qualification should open doors, not close them. When skills and qualifications are recognised across borders, students, refugees, and young professionals can access more opportunities for education, employment, and lifelong learning across the IGAD region.
To advance this vision, IGAD Member States adopted the Regional Qualifications Framework, helping make learning more portable, strengthen regional integration, and expand opportunities across borders.
✨ When qualifications are recognised, opportunities travel further.

Dear Waziri, I wished we had more time together to drive gender equality, women empowerment and cultural innovation. I am deeply convinced that these are key levers for Kenya’s transformation. My very best wishes to you in making a difference to citizens’ lives!
